CUGA, or the Canadian Underwater Games Association, was founded in 1984, and became the sole Canadian representative for underwater sports to CMAS, the international underwater games governing body. Though primarily representing Underwater Hockey, CUGA hopes to develop other underwater sports, such as rugby and finswimming in Canada. CUGA is registered as an ameatur athletic association with Revenue Canada and donations to CUGA are tax deductable. It is strictly a non-profit organization, manned by volunteers from across Canada.
Its objectives are:
- to regulate and promote all underwater games recognized by CMAS in Canada
- to select and support national representative teams to world championships
- world invitational tournaments and zone invitational tournaments
- to advocate the development of proper facilities and equipment
- to raise the standards of all underwater games,
- to stage annual National Championships.
Memberships to CUGA are low cost and allow us to fund programs for underwater sports. A membership in CUGA allows you to compete at National and World Level competitions.
