UNDERWATER RUGBY

What is Underwater Rugby?

Underwater RugbyUnderwater Rugby is a team sport played at and below the surface of the water in a swimming pool, by two teams of 6 players a team, each wearing snorkeling gear (ie: mask, fins, snorkel). The object of the game is to put a negatively bouyant ball into the opposing team's goal. The goals are located at opposite ends of the pool on the bottom. The method of moving the ball is by carrying or passing below the surface. An opponent carrying the ball may be tackled below the neckline, but must be released once the ball is dropped or passed.

Goals are high baskets that the ball must be placed into, and defenders have many methods of ensuring that the ball does not go into the goal. The game is one of strategy, fitness, swimming/diving ability and breathholding. World Championships are held every 4 years.
