DOING IT SOO STYLE!!!

Soo TridentsThe Soo Tridents Underwater Hockey Club have recently experienced a revival, with up to 22 people showing up for games with ages ranging for 7 to... ummm... 30! This has got the veterans excited, as the younger players will help ensure the continuation of the game in the city for many years to come.

Not only are the younger players helping the longevity of the sport, they are also doing really well at tournaments and having a great time. At the College Royal Tournament, the Soo team was made up of 4 veterans and the rest were rookies. (Picture to the left) They made the playoffs and had a good run at it! They continued to illustrate this new rebirth of hockey at their own tournament, where they were able to field 3 adult teams and 2 youth teams!

What is interesting about the Soo, is the way they practice. Due to shortages in pool time, there is no separate rookie and veteran sessions. This way, for the two practices a week, everyone plays together, often with everyone in the pool too. It has proven to be a great way for young, inexperienced kids to learn the game from the experienced players. Once you have played in the Soo, practices elsewhere just are not the same. I know that I am counting down the days to my next visit north and my next game with the Tridents!
